This excellent beach has two beaches one at each end: one near the Olympic Port with Paseo Marítimo Beach and the other near the Puerto de Barcelona with San Sebastiá Beach. Casa Batlló

Yet another amazing Gaudí creation, the UNESCO-listed Casa Batlló is one of the most characteristic Modernist buildings in Barcelona. The fantastical mansion was designed as a private residence for the textile manufacturer Josep Batlló i Casanovas. With its freely swinging shapes and ornamental facade, this dreamlike building looks like a castle from a surreal fairy tale.

Most of the design details depart completely from any architectural precedent. The window frame on the first floor is bordered by swinging shapes that suggest plants, others resemble entrances to caves. On the facade, decorative glazed ceramic tiles in green, blue, and ochre colors add to the flamboyance. The wave-shaped roof, like that of Casa Milà, has numerous richly adorned chimneys. Gaudí also created the interior decorations, which can be seen in the Casa Museu Gaudí in the Güell Park. For those seeking a superb gourmet meal, the elegant Moments Restaurant, with two Michelin stars, is just a few steps away at 38 Passeig de Gràcia.

Address: 43 Passeig de Grácia, Barcelona

Antoni Gaudí - Sagrada Família
One of Europe's most unconventional churches, this spectacular basilica is the most famous sight in Barcelona. The UNESCO-listed Basilica de la Sagrada Familia stands in the northern part of the city, dominating its surroundings with its 18 spindly towers soaring high above all other monuments. The Basilica of the Sacred Family is also known in Spanish by its official name: Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família.

Antoni Gaudí was commissioned in 1883 to design this basilica as a neo-Gothic church. But instead of following the plans, he created a signature example of his famous surrealistic Art Nouveau architecture. He had no firm ideas in mind, preferring to alter and add to the plans as work progressed. Although Gaudí had originally forecast between ten and fifteen years, the church was never completed. As a result, the main work by the most important Catalan architect of modern times remains just a shell, and nobody knows whether or when it will ever be completed.

Visitors are first struck by the lavish exterior with its expressive Nativity facade depicting the birth of Jesus, and the evocative Passion facade that illustrates the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Equally stunning, the interior is an immense space of 90 meters long by 60 meters high. The ceiling sparkles with opulent decorative details, and colorful stained-glass windows allow ethereal light to flow in.
The apse features an unusual Crucifix rendered as a canopy with lanterns. The overall effect is jaw-dropping. Gaudí best captured the essence of his architectural masterpiece when he described it as "a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people."

Valencia - Arrival
August 21.

The port city of Valencia lies on Spain’s southeastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails.

Ibiza - Arrival
Evening of August 21.

Arrival in Ibiza. Take time to explore on your own.

Ibiza is one of the Balearic islands, an archipelago of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. It's well known for the lively nightlife in Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni, where major European nightclubs have summer outposts. It’s also home to quiet villages, yoga retreats and beaches, from Platja d'en Bossa, lined with hotels, bars and shops, to quieter sandy coves backed by pine-clad hills found all around the coast.

Cala Comte
Located on the west of the island, Cala Comte has a small beach with sun loungers as well as a rocky coastline with plenty of carved flat platforms to base yourself for the day – perfect for anyone who loves the sea but hates the sand. The water is shallow too, making it a great spot to bring kids. Spend all day in the water until sunset, then head up to one of the three restaurants on top of the cliffs to enjoy the wide-lens views of the sun dropping behind the horizon.
Picture

Dalt Vila
Dalt Vila (meaning “upper town”) is Ibiza’s old town and sits on a hill, contained within ancient walls and looking out to sea. The views from the ramparts are stunning, and the numerous winding cobbled streets and steps lead towards the cathedral at the top. The main gateway into the old town is up a ramp and through an old drawbridge. The area is not simply a tourist attraction; it is still partly residential and offers tantalising glimpses of real life through the occasional open door. This is a fascinating area to wander around during the day or evening, with many little shops, galleries, museums and restaurants in the narrow streets.
Picture

Can Rich de Buscastell
Another Sant Antoni favorite, this organic winery is known for its ecological farming practices as well as its fine wines, and it produces excellent olive oil, vinegar and herb liqueur as well. It's located on some 46 lovely acres, and tours are available by appointment only. Expect to enjoy a walk through the vineyards along with some time spent in the processing area. You'll learn everything you ever wanted to know about how wine makes it from the vine to the bottle before enjoying a tasting of several wines paired with delicious tapas.

Es Vedrà
Es Vedrà is a rocky and uninhabited island, standing 413m (1,355ft) high, just off the southwest coast of Ibiza. Folklore says not only that it is the third most magnetic place on earth, but that it is the birthplace of Phoenician goddess Tanit, and that it was home to the sirens and sea nymphs who tried to lure Ulysses from his ship in Homer’s Odyssey. The island is also the setting for the local fable Es Gegant des Vedrà (the giant of Es Vedra), about two brothers who go to the island to search for a cure for their father’s illness and come face to face with a giant. Mythology aside, Es Vedrà is a stunning place to take some pictures or watch the sun go down.
Picture

Ibiza Town
The port city known as Ibiza Town is the largest and pretiest destination on the island. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Ibiza Town boasts a walled fortress as well as cobblestone streets. Locals call the city Eivissa. Ibiza Town is divided into sections: Dalt Vila and Eixample. Perched above the water, Dalt Vila, or Old Town, is the historic area filled with world-class restaurants and a great selection of bars. Below, you’ll find Eixample, or Extension, where most of the newer buildings can be found. While visiting, be sure to check out the Cathedral called Our Lady of the Snows, which offers perhaps the best views in the entire town.

Puerta del Sol : The Heart of the City
The Puerta del Sol was named after the sun emblem on the old city gate, which formerly stood here. This spacious town square aligns with the rising sun. Besides being a hub of public transportation (with several bus stops and Metro entrances), the Puerta del Sol is also the "Kilometer Zero" point from which all distances on the Spanish national road network are measured.
The Puerta del Sol has been the scene of many historic events, including the Spanish resistance to Napoleon on May 2nd 1808, and in 1931, the Second Republic was proclaimed here.
Nowadays the square is a place to hang out and enjoy life. Lined with shops and cafés, the Puerta del Sol is still one of the liveliest squares in Madrid.
Just off the Puerta del Sol is Madrid's largest department store, El Corte Inglés, which sells everything from clothes, shoes, and swimsuits to traditional Spanish fans. Also nearby is La Violeta, an old-fashioned confection shop that offers the Madrid specialty of violet candies.
Picture

Temple of Debod : An Acient Egyptian Temple
In La Montaña Park (close to Plaza de España), visitors can discover an ancient Egyptian temple. A gift from Egypt, in thanks for Spain's help in saving the Abu Simbel temples during the building of the Aswan Dam, the Debod Temple was brought to Madrid in 1968. The temple was built for King Adikhalamani in the 2nd century BC and was dedicated to the Egyptian God and Goddess, Amun and Isis. Well-preserved original decorations are found inside the temple, which is rare for an archaeological site. Peaceful gardens surrounding the monument feature reflective pools and a fountain, creating a magical effect.
Picture

Santiago Bernabéu Stadium
Not all of Madrid's tourist attractions revolve around art. One of its most-visited museums draws football (soccer) fans to the stadium of the city's home team, Real Madrid. Visitors can take a tour of the stadium, as well as the museum with displays of trophies, team artifacts, and temporary exhibits. Tours also give fans a chance to enjoy the view of the field from the top of the stadium.

Sightseeing at Toledo

Highlights
- Explore the medieval melting pot of Jewish Christian and Moorish cultures
- Explore the architectural and social history of Toledo
- See the churches, synagogues, and mosques

Description
During this day trip from Madrid to Toledo, we'll join a historian for a Toledo walking tour that explores the architectural and social history of Toledo and offers an understanding into the city that is traditionally known as ‘the melting pot of three cultures. A center of culture and religion since the Middle Ages, Toledo has been home to Jews, Christians, and Muslims from the Maghreb. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the churches, synagogues, and mosques that dot this beautifully preserved city are a testimony to the heterogeneous history of Europe.

Itinerary
Our Toledo excursion will begin on the 20-minute train ride from Madrid, during which our guide will lay out the basic timeline of the city's history and some of the main themes to think about. Once in Toledo, we'll begin our walk at the Cathedral, whose origins go back to the seventh century, and which boasts a superb collection of Gothic altarpieces, funerary monuments and choir stalls. It also contains a rare religious painting by Francisco Goya.

From here, we will head to the Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca, stopping along the way at the church of San Tomé to examine one of El Greco's masterpieces, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, within the context of medieval funerary customs and the relevance of its setting in Toledo. The fourteenth-century Synagogue nearby, which houses the Museum of Sephardic Culture, is crucial to our understanding of the Jewish influence on Spanish culture. After a tour of the Jewish quarter, we will visit the late fifteenth-century Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, commissioned by the Reyes Católicos, and a perfect setting for a discussion of the political and religious decisions taken by the monarchs.
