The United Kingdom consists of a group of islands off the northwest coast of Europe. It is a unique country made up of four nations: England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. England, Wales, and Scotland also make up Great Britain.

London - 3 nights
June 16 - 19

Arrive in London today with both kids. Take time to explore on your own.

London, city, capital of the United Kingdom. It is among the oldest of the world's great cities--its history spanning nearly two millennia—and one of the most cosmopolitan. By far Britain's largest metropolis, it is also the country's economic, transportation, and cultural centre.

Explore at your leisure...

Covent Garden
The market halls of Covent Garden are only the beginning of the neighborhood, which encompasses the shops and restaurants of Long Acre and other adjacent streets, those of Neal's Yard and Seven Dials, as well as the Central Square with its street performers. The halls and arcades of Covent Garden Market are lined with specialty shops and kiosks selling everything from fine handcrafts to tacky souvenirs.

Housed in the former flower market, you'll find the London Transport Museum, filled with historic buses, trolleys, and trams. This area is also where you'll find the Royal Opera House.

Bath - 3 nights
June 19 - 22

Bath is the largest city in the county of Somerset, England, known for and named after its Roman-built baths. In 2011, the population was 88,859. Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, 97 miles (156 km) west of London and 11 miles (18 km) southeast of Bristol. The city became a World Heritage site in 1987.

Royal Crescent

No trip to Bath would be complete without a visit to the splendid sight that is Royal Crescent. This row of thirty terraced houses, designed by John Wood the Younger, is like the Circus’s cuter, more popular little sister. The first house in this superbly photogenic row, No. 1 Royal Crescent, is home to a luxurious museum with interiors decked out in the elegant Georgian style.

Picture
Roman Baths
Finally! With the hot air ballooning and rooftop swim out of the way, you can concentrate on the real reason for your visit to this city and one of the finest historical experiences in Europe – the beautiful Roman baths. These glorious ruins transport you back down the centuries, and paired with excellent museum displays, the baths make for a wondrous experience with plenty to learn. A magical day out.

York - 3 nights
June 22 - 25

York is a cathedral city and unitary authority area at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in England. The city has long-standing buildings and structures, such as a minster, castle and ancient city walls. The city is the head settlement of historic Yorkshire and was its own county corporate.

Clifford's Tower

Located between Fishergate and Skeldergate Bridge, York Castle was built of wood by the Normans in 1068. The oldest remaining part is Clifford's Tower. Constructed in the 13th century as a replacement for the wooden fortress, it was named after Roger de Clifford, executed here in 1322 as leader of the Lancastrian party.

The tower was also infamous as the place where the king would put those he had executed on display. Today, the tower is popular for its stunning panoramic views over the city. Picnic facilities are available, along with a gift shop.
Picture
Castle Howard
An easy 30-minute drive northeast of York is majestic Castle Howard. Set amid 1,000 acres of parkland and richly furnished with antiquities and treasures, family-owned Castle Howard is undoubtedly one of England's most spectacular country estates. This magnificent Palladian mansion - famous as the backdrop for acclaimed TV drama Brideshead Revisited - was built for the third Earl of Carlisle by dramatist-turned-architect John Vanbrugh.
Picture
York Minster
The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York in full - commemorates the monks who converted those living in the surrounding countryside to Christianity. Dedicated to St. Peter, York Minster's bishops even sat on the council at Arles in AD 314. After this, little is known until AD 627, when the oldest documented (wooden) church was built here for the baptism of King Edwin of Northumbria. Succeeding Saxon and Norman constructions were destroyed, and the present cathedral was built in the Gothic style in the 13th century.

And if you've got a head for heights, York Minster's spectacular medieval
Central Tower
 - the highest point in the city - involves a climb of 230 feet up 275 steps. Along the way, you'll enjoy close-up views of some of the cathedral's most interesting decorative features, including its pinnacles and gargoyles. Once outside, all that hard work will be rewarded with superb views of York's historic city center.

Oxford - 1 night
June 25 - 26

Say goodbye to the kids

Durham - 3 nights
June 26 - 29

Enjoy your last three nights with the kids before sending them off.

Durham is a city in northeast England, south of Newcastle upon Tyne. The River Wear loops around the Romanesque Durham Cathedral and Norman Durham Castle. North of the castle, 13th-century, medieval Crook Hall is home to gardens and a maze. South of the river, Durham University offers a Botanic Garden with woodland and tropical plants, and the Oriental Museum exhibiting Asian, Egyptian and Middle Eastern artefacts.

Beamish, The Living Museum of the North
This fantastic living museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful countryside just 10 miles outside Durham, offers a look into the lives of those who lived in the area during the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras. Costumed characters bring the displays to life and help tell the amazing story of how the Industrial Revolution transformed the region.

Beamish also hosts numerous exciting
events
, including The Great North Festival of Transport, a Georgian Fair, and The Great North Festival of Agriculture. And if you expect to make a day of it (you certainly should!), you can enjoy a snack or meal at any one of the many different eateries at Beamish, along with some great shopping opportunities.
Picture
Durham Cathedral
The Cathedral Church of Christ, Blessed Mary the Virgin, and St. Cuthbert of Durham - is famous for its beautiful British Romanesque-style architecture. Whether approached from the narrow streets of the Old City across Palace Green or from the banks of the River Wear over Prebends Bridge, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is truly awe-inspiring.

Guided tours of Durham Cathedral are offered daily and take 1.25 hours. The cathedral also has an excellent adult learning program for visitors wanting to know more about the area's history and includes lectures, workshops, and tours of the surrounding woods and riverbanks.
Durham Castle
Built as a fortress by the Earl of Northumberland in 1072, Durham Castle - also part of the Durham UNESCO World Heritage Site - was presented by William the Conqueror to the city's prince-bishops. The most interesting rooms are the Norman Chapel, with its delightful carved archaic capitals; the large 14th-century dining-hall; the 16th-century chapel; and 17th-century Black Stairs complete with pineapple carvings.

The castle is also home to University College, the founding college of Durham University. More than 100 students live here, making this a truly unique building with more than 900 years of living history. For a truly memorable experience, look into availing yourself of the castle's unique B&B stays (during student vacations only). Tours of the castle are included with your stay.

- Sample local beers (or choose your own)
- Enjoy a nightcap at another local pub before returning to Bath

Description
Our 'Historic Pubs, Mining & Dining' experience is something very special and very different. More than an unforgettable gourmet dining experience at one of the top restaurants in the Bath region, we stop at two other unique historic inns to sample the beer (or wine) and learn of each one's incredible past and the secrets that lie beneath.

Much more than the typical sterile dining tour, this is a journey of discovery, culinary sensations and personal connection and conversation that is truly unforgettable.

Itinerary
In a small group of no more than eight, we take you into the local countryside to experience fabulous food and drink and learn of the stories that cling to the fabric of three historic pubs in the region close to Bath. We begin with a visit to an old, working man's pub that 100 years ago chimed with the sound of nearby steam trains and burly quarrymen relaxing after a hard day cutting stone deep beneath the inn. Experience the local beer as you learn of the unique story of the pub, the local area and the men and women who helped build Bath.

Discover a 17th-century coaching inn that once accommodated 40 horses as a stopping point on the London to Bristol highway. Enjoy a fabulous three-course dinner, and hear the fascinating story of a nearby government secret that was so secret it is still officially classified! Finally, enjoy one final, relaxed night-cap before at a rather unique and special watering hole before being returned back to your door in Bath for a good night's sleep!

A guided tour of this charming village will include the Bernie Scripps Garage and Funeral Parlour, plus the train station that was featured as Aidensfield station in Heartbeat and as Hogsmeade in the first Harry Potter film. You will also see the post office and stores and, of course, there will be time to treat yourself to a drink in the Aidensfield Arms pub. Your tour will then return to central York.
